Music is often a powerful tool that both listeners and players use to channel their emotions during challenging times. Apart from that, for the players music-making in an ensemble also provides a sense of community that supports each other and works towards a common goal. At the start of the lockdown we thought we had lost this invaluable part of our lives but we did not despair for too long and instead we came up with a plan!
Over four months we have produced our own arrangement of Antonín Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, recorded individual parts remotely, mixed the audio recordings together, and then also recorded videos that meant that we could share the gift of music with all of you too!
Even though not everyone could be on this screen, this was a big team-work effort of the whole orchestra, which has shaped us as both an ensemble and a community. We now hope that next term the eased lockdown will enable us to meet in person at least in small groups and work towards either a concert or another recording.
